Music

The Music Academy Edgar Palm is in charge of musical education for CCC. Our teachers are specialized to teach all types of instruments, and cover all genres of music from classical to pop.

The Curaçao culture is very rich with all types of music, as it reflects our multi-ethnicity and our European-Caribbean history.

In the 16 th and 17 th Century, Spanish and Dutch colonizers brought their classical music like the waltz, polka, etc. from Europe . Then the African slaves brought their tribal music during the 17 th and 18 th Century to the island. These different types of music were married to create a very rich and unique type of local music, and so our own waltz, polka, mazurka, tumba, and tambú was born.

This local genre was further carried on into the present by very talented musicians such as Joseph Sickman Corsen, Edgar Palm and Wim Statius-Muller.

To keep our local music well alive in the present and preserve it for future generations, our teachers pay extra attention in the curriculum to our own genre of music. Thus we have our own group of students, the “Muzikantíos”, that give numerous presentations of our local music.

Besides “Muzikantíos” we have other student-groups that specialize in Jazz and Latin music.

Our music classes are divided as follows:

•  Instruments (individual or group)

•  Voice (individual or choir)

•  General musical education

We have classes in the afternoons for children and

in the evening for adolescents and adults.

Children and students pay special fees.
